President Emeritus Thomas Galligan – Kindling Lifelong Learning

President Emeritus and Law Professor, LSU

"A good college education, if you take advantage of it, kindles in you an interest in lifelong learning and lifelong education."

From someone believing in you, to the power of suggestion by a mentor, to receiving equitable access to funding to discovering your own passion and potential; a path through to higher education usually is started with a spark. How do we take that spark, whether our own or that of the students we serve, and kindle it into lifelong learning?

In this episode of Rebuilding the American Dream, we are speaking with LSU President Emeritus Thomas Galligan. A lawyer, legal scholar and educator with more than 35 years of working in higher education, President Galligan shares wise advice for everyone, at every stage of academic achievement and leadership.

Most recently, Galligan presided over LSU from January 2020 – April 2021. President Galligan received a Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, a J.D. degree from Seattle University School of Law, and a LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School. Recently, he returned to his love of teaching, and is a law professor at LSU.
