Sam Lucas

Student-Athlete, University of Utah Swim Team

“Collegiate athletics is one of the biggest time-consuming commitments you'll have, probably in your life. Being on your own and having to juggle school, athletics, and then all the mental health and relationships that you have outside of school and the pool, it's a big burden to take on as a young adult. But the sense of accomplishment makes it that much more satisfying.”

On this episode of Rebuilding the American Dream: The Student-Athlete Experience, we speak with Sam Lucas, a second-year Division I Swimmer for the University of Utah and current Degree Insurance Summer Associate. Sam shares his experiences growing up in high-level competitive athletics and how he is learning to navigate that competition within the pressures of college and looking towards the future.

During Sam’s career at Utah he has been a part of the Utah PAC-12 Championship team during both of his years. Sam is also a Summer Associate at Degree Insurance, and studying to earn his degree in Business Administration. Prior to the University of Utah, he was a swimmer of 12 years for 19th Nationally ranked club team Lakeside Aquatic Club, and 4-time state qualifier in the state of Texas.
